The PSD3 is a blockbuster sequel to one of the most important pieces of regulation in the history of Open Banking: the Payment Services Directive (PSD2).

In June 2023, the European Commission put forward proposals “to bring payments and the wider financial sector into the digital age” by improving consumer protection and competition whilst empowering consumers to securely share their data.

It has now been almost six years since PSD2 launched Open Banking in the EU. Will the PSD3 prove to be as important a landmark? 

We’ll be gathering a panel of experts around our virtual Campfire to discuss the PSD3 and its implications for the Open Banking movement. 

Our guests will consider how the new regulation will meet the European Commission’s objective of “improving the functioning of open banking” by removing remaining obstacles and improving customers’ control over their payment data to enable the delivery of innovative new services.

We will consider the potential interactions between PSD3 and the UK’s Joint Regulatory Oversight Committee (JROC), which is committed to designing and overseeing the next stage of Open Banking development. 

The panel will also take a global view of the implications of PSD3, considering what it means for the industry on an international level and exploring the challenges of cross-border payments and Open Banking
